Global coffee consumption continues its rapid growth, with estimates placing worldwide demand close to 180 million 60 kg bags in 2026, reflecting the ongoing expansion of coffee culture in both traditional and emerging markets. This trend goes hand in hand with strong demand for specialty and premium coffees, which are redefining consumer expectations and pushing higher quality segments to record market shares. At the same time, the global coffee market remains on solid footing, with production and trade supported by the International Coffee Organization’s statistical framework tracking output, trade flows, and prices.

One of the most transformative forces reshaping the global landscape is the explosive growth of the specialty coffee segment, valued at more than USD 112 billion in 2026 and projected to reach nearly USD 263 billion by 2035, with a compound annual growth rate above 9 percent. This expansion is driven by younger consumers, increased away from home consumption, and a growing preference for ethical, sustainable, and single origin products that offer distinctive stories and more complex sensory profiles. Specialty coffee is no longer a niche category but a core growth engine influencing how green coffee is sourced, priced, and marketed.

Finally, the premiumization of consumption and the diversification of markets remain central pillars of industry growth. In regions such as North America and Europe, demand for higher quality coffees continues to rise as awareness of quality, traceability, and sustainability shapes purchasing decisions. This environment creates strategic opportunities for wholesale buyers and sellers who can align their offerings with these value added trends, strengthen relationships with discerning clients, and position themselves more competitively in an increasingly sophisticated global coffee market.
