The U.S. National Coffee Data Trends report for Spring 2025 reveals that daily consumption has reached a 14-year record: 66% of American adults drank coffee the previous day the highest rate for any beverage and 46% consumed specialty coffee, surpassing traditional coffee, which was consumed by 42%.
Young adults are leading the trend: 64% of those aged 25 to 39 consumed specialty coffee in the past week, more than any other age group. Specialty coffee drinkers also report being aware of its health benefits: 61% believe coffee is good for health, aligning with a new FDA regulation that allows plain coffee to be labeled as “healthy.”
This boom not only reinforces coffee’s position as America’s favorite beverage, but also highlights a shift in habits: consumers increasingly prefer artisanal, high-quality drinks (such as espresso, cold brew, etc.), often consumed outside the home. This momentum underscores the consolidation of specialty coffee as a key segment in the market.
