Innovation, Experimentation, and Commitment
Sonora
In the Central Valley of Costa Rica, under the shadow of the Poás Volcano, lies Hacienda Sonora, a farm of over 100 hectares with unique coffee for those seeking different experiences.
This family-owned estate is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental respect. The farm hosts a forest reserve that also serves as a refuge for a rich diversity of flora and fauna, enriching the local ecosystem.
In 1970, Alberto Guardia decided to convert a large part of the 100 hectares into coffee plantations, which quickly became the family's main source of income. In 1999, facing historically low coffee prices, they decided to establish their own micro-mill to maximize the quality of the coffee produced. This marked the beginning of their unforgettable Honey and Natural processes.
Today, Hacienda Sonora is recognized not only for its exceptional quality but also for its spirit of innovation, experimentation, and commitment to its workers. Inside the farm, each employee is provided with free housing and basic services, something that sets it apart from other farms. Under the joint management of Alberto and his son Diego, the estate has expanded its operations to 55 hectares dedicated to cultivating over 20 different varieties.
At Planting Costa Rica, we know that every coffee bean from Hacienda Sonora represents the legacy of many years of hard work, and that is why we trust that every lot will be excellent.
