La Margaritas 26

Century of Tradition, and Sustainability in the Heart of Dota

La Margaritas 26

Las Margaritas 26 is a farm located in the coffee-growing region of Dota, Costa Rica. Founded in 2016, the farm carries a family tradition of more than 100 years in coffee cultivation.

Originally dedicated to dairy farming, its owner, Emmanuel Solís Porras, decided to transform it into a farm specialized in high-quality coffee varieties.

We are mainly dedicated to producing Geisha: more than 50% of the coffee-planted area on the farm is of this variety. In addition, we grow other varieties such as Yellow Catuai, Red Catuai, Milenio, SL28, Excelencia, and Bourbon.

The “Old Geisha” is our oldest lot of this variety, with plants ranging from 7 to 10 years of age, while the Excelencia variety comes from Providencia de Dota and is currently under trial to evaluate its performance on our farm.

The processing methods we use for our Geishas include natural, honey, and some washed processes, always aiming to highlight the unique characteristics of each lot.

The conditions in Dota make it an ideal region for coffee cultivation. With cool, dry weather during the harvest season and mineral-rich soils, the coffee produced here has a distinctive profile.

At Las Margaritas 26, the soil is semi-sandy with medium acidity, which enhances the unique characteristics of the Geisha variety.

Additionally, the plants are protected from the sun by the natural shade of banana, avocado, cedar, and other native trees, which also contribute to preserving biodiversity.

So far, we have not received any awards, but we hope to participate in future editions of the Cup of Excellence, aiming to continue positioning ourselves in the world of specialty coffee.

Aligned with our sustainable approach, Las Margaritas 26 has implemented environmentally friendly practices.

The farm avoids the use of insecticides or harmful agrochemicals, uses shade trees to prevent soil erosion and regulate the climate, and diversifies production with crops such as avocados, peaches, plums, apples, and strawberries.

Terracing and composting of coffee waste are also employed to ensure soil fertility.

One of our main short-term goals is to obtain the Blue Flag Ecological Certification, as recognition of our ongoing efforts in environmental protection and the sustainability of our agricultural practices.

Las Margaritas 26 represents the purest passion for coffee, combining tradition, innovation, and sustainability to create a unique experience in every cup.
