Imperio Rojo
Grown with Passion
Imperio Rojo
At 1,600 to 1,800 meters above sea level in Costa Rica’s highlands, Imperio Rojo represents more than a coffee farm; it is the result of years of determination, transformation, and passion.
What began as a dream to add value to their harvest has grown into a micro-beneficio model that allows this producer to personally oversee each step of their process. Their story is one of reinvention: transitioning from construction and heavy machinery work to specialty coffee production, driven by a desire to understand and improve what they had to offer.
The farm cultivates a diverse selection of varieties known for their excellence in cup quality: Ethiopian 47, Kenya, Geisha, SL28, Villalobos, and Catugeisha. This botanical diversity is matched by an equally ambitious processing program that includes natural, honey, washed, rested-washed, double washed, and anaerobic methods. These techniques, carried out with precision and intention, are designed to highlight the unique attributes of each variety and micro-lot.
With an annual yield of around 400 fanegas and a harvest team of approximately 35 seasonal Panamanian pickers, the farm operates with a clear focus on consistency and quality.
Though not from a long lineage of coffee growers, the current generation has taken the foundation laid by a father’s small scale production and expanded it into a professionally managed specialty project.
Transparency, responsibility, and long-term commitment define their approach, both in the field and in their relationships with buyers.
Exporting since 2012, Imperio Rojo continues to grow with the goal of making their coffee known around the world. Every shipment that reaches a foreign cup is a moment of pride and renewed motivation.
The team’s greatest hope is to be recognized for the quality they produce and to secure a place in international markets not just as exporters, but as artisans of specialty coffee cultivated with purpose.
