In 2006, Maribel Barrantes and Jose Jaime Cardenas from the Naranjo region, without any prior experience in the coffee world, embarked on the adventure of founding their own micro-mill called Café Sin Límites.

 

At the beginning, they faced many challenges as they didn't know how to process coffee and even lacked constant electricity at their mill. They were told that processing their coffee would be nearly impossible, but that didn't stop them. After selling some of their belongings, they were able to install a power transformer, and in that same year, they secured their first export!

 

Between 2007 and 2010, they acquired more land and agricultural machinery to significantly increase and improve their production. For this family, there are no limits when it comes to coffee, giving honor to their name. 

 

Nowadays all of their effort has paid off. They have even been finalists 14 times in the Cup of Excellence as per 2024, even winning awards in this prestigious competition.

 

For us at Planting Costa Rica, Café Sin Límites represents a great story of overcoming challenges that inspires us to improve. For this reason, we believe more people should know their story and their excellently processed coffee.
