Café Directo

Where Family Legacy, Innovation, and Exceptional Coffee Meet

Café Directo

For the family behind Café Directo, coffee represents far more than an agricultural activity: it is heritage, livelihood, and a passion passed down through five generations.

While their connection to coffee stretches back decades, it was in 2010 that they took a decisive step toward independence by building their own micro mill and embracing the growing world of specialty coffee. What began as a series of small experiments with natural processing evolved into a project centered on quality, innovation, and direct relationships with international markets.

Today, Café Directo operates two complementary farms. Casa de Piedra, located between 1,200 and 1,600 meters above sea level, focuses primarily on Red Catuaí, providing the consistency and volume sought by specialty buyers.

Monte Alto, meanwhile, sits between 1,800 and 2,050 meters above sea level and is dedicated to more distinctive varieties, including Geisha, Pacamara, Typica, Tupí, Venecia, Catigua MG2, and Sarchimor. This varietal diversity allows the farm to offer both reliable specialty lots and highly differentiated micro-lots with exceptional complexity.

At the mill, each lot is processed with the goal of highlighting its unique sensory potential. Production includes Washed, Honey, Natural, and Anaerobic processes, reflecting years of experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement.

Today, Café Directo exports approximately 2,000 bags annually and works with around 80 pickers during harvest, maintaining a strong commitment to quality at every stage of production.

Sustainability is an integral part of Café Directo’s vision. The farm has reduced pesticide use by 75%, reuses coffee pulp as a natural fertilizer, and has planted more than 1,000 shade trees to promote biodiversity and ecosystem health.

For buyers seeking traceability, family tradition, processing diversity, and a producer committed to constant improvement, Café Directo offers an authentic expression of Costa Rican specialty coffee.
