Alto del Vapor

Ecological Commitment and Love for Work

Alto del Vapor

Back in 2021 the three siblings leading the micro-mill Alto del Vapor, Delfina, Eduardo and Dalila had to make one of the hardest decisions of their life: to either sell their heritage or to start to add value to their coffee farms.

Bravely they decided to stand strong and although they are only the second generation of coffee producers they have already managed to perfect some of the most complex drying processes such washed, honey, naturals, anaerobics and even aerobic methods producing some of the most exquisite coffees in the region of Tarrazú.

Despite challenges like Covid, climate change, and rising local prices, their hard work has allowed them to move forward, always innovating with excellence, love, and passion.

Additionally from their outstanding processing techniques, they are highly committed to sustainable production, taking care of resources with the goal to reduce their ecological footprint to zero. As an example, they maintain 80% of their 200 hectare farm as a conservation area, which is extremely important as this area contains a main source of spring drinking water for the community.

Definitely, the mico-mill Alto del Vapor is an example how motivated people can overcome any challenge and that prioritizing quality over quantity, good environmental practices, and ensuring worker’s best conditions can go hand in hand to offer an excellent cup of coffee, reason why Planting Costa Rica is extremely proud of the long-term relationship we’ve managed build with this incredible people.
