Flor de Montaña

Harvested with Heart

Flor de Montaña

Nestled at 1,750 meters above sea level in the highlands of the Savegre Biosphere Reserve, Flor de Montaña is a family-run farm that embodies the essence of Costa Rica’s traditional rural coffee culture revived and refined for the specialty market.

With just 3.5 hectares of their 120-hectare property dedicated to coffee and over 12,000 plants in production, the family grows Gesha, Villalobos, and Catuai varieties in a biodiverse, shaded ecosystem where coffee shares space with native forest, citrus, plantains, avocado, and other crops.

Their journey into specialty coffee began in 2018 when Deily, one of the daughters, returned from an internship in Mexico inspired to showcase their coffee to the world. In 2020, they made their international debut with a Cup of Excellence award and export to Korea, an achievement that continues to fuel their passion.

Today, their micro-beneficio focuses on honey processes as a way to highlight the unique profiles of each variety, while also experimenting with natural and washed lots depending on the harvest.

The family handles every step of production from planting and harvesting to processing and drying, with deep care and intention. Sustainability is at the heart of their practices: they avoid herbicides, use natural shade, produce their own bio-inputs, and protect water sources.

With the support of in-house agronomic expertise and guidance from ICAFE, they’ve developed a regenerative model that puts soil health and biodiversity at the center.

Producing around 35 fanegas per year with the help of local harvesters, Flor de Montaña isn’t driven by volume but by quality, transparency, and respect for the land.

Their coffee tells a story of perseverance, pride, and vision, a small but significant voice in Costa Rica’s evolving specialty coffee landscape.

For buyers seeking integrity, complexity, and human connection in their sourcing, this family’s legacy offers more than just coffee; it offers a future worth supporting.
